Hi,

We are working with Widevine and PlayReady as well - which platform are you interested?

Hi,

based on the support for the Smart TV Alliance specification version, platforms support a set of DRM methods such as PlayReady. It depends on the platform which version of the Smart TV Alliance specification (and thus: DRM methods) is supported. Of course some platforms could support more DRM methods than those mandated by the Smart TV Alliance specification. The indication which Smart TV Alliance specification version is supported is for now published by the manufacturer.

Hi,

Thanks fro your answers. According the specification v2.0, the PlayReady is mandatory, of course if then the manufacturer supports e.g. Widevine, Marlin or e.g. SecureMedia or VCAS, then this is something extra.

1) Does that mean that all manufacturers like Panasonic, Toshiba or VESTEL supports PlayReady?

2) Is there common PlayReady API?

The reason I am asking is that we are developing also for Panasonic Viera TVs and in the last debate with Panasonic team (~3 weeks ago) they told me they do not currently support any DRM, but they plan doing that, so I am a bit confused now.

Thanks fro clarification.

Typically, manufacturers decide which platforms comply to (which version of) the Smart TV Alliance specification, so there is no black and white answer for this question.

The Smart TV Alliance specification defines a common way of using the PlayReady API, refer to section 3.5.1.2 of the specification version 2.x.

Hi,

Okay, so that means that the fact Panasonic or TOSHIBA is SmartTV Alliance member means they might not even have the TV that is specification 2.0 compliant if I understand you correctly.

Well that is very confusing for many customers honestly, since on the Internet they can read Panasonic joined the SmartTV Alliance in January 2013, in the version 2.0 specification they see the PlayReady is included. If they put those together it leads to expectation that the newest Panasonic TV will support PlayReady. It will be really good to have some page and clarify that.

Thanks for clarifying the PlayReady API
