VirtualBox not installed

Hi,

The SDK installation works fine, no error was shown. However when I started the SDK (run_sta_sdk.bat) the error saying VBoxmanage.exe cannot be found was shown (see there: http://smarttv.mautilus.com/others/STA_ ... _error.png). I was not able to find the VirtualBox installation, so I downloaded one from Oracle pages and I used the sdk.vbox configuration file for the STA 2.0 image.

After the virtual machine worked fine and also the deployment from Eclipse was without nay problems.

I have tested installation 2 times on 2 different Lenovo notebooks with Windows 7 Professional installed and it always end with the same error.

Hi,

thank you for your report. To help us analyse the issue, we would like to have some detailed information :
* is your operating system 32 bit or 64 bit ?
* which version of the SDK did you use ? 2.0 ?
* was any version of VirtualBox (ever) installed on these systems prior to installing the SDK, e.g. VirtualBox 3.0 ? This could make the installer think VirtualBox was already present on the system.
* did you run the installer with administrative privileges (e.g. were you allowed to run the installer)
* did you install the SDK in a non standard place (e.g. E:\)?
* did you see the VirtualBox installer appearing when installing the SDK ? (apparently not, but just to make sure)

If we need more information, we will send a PM. Thank you,

Hi,

Here are my answers:

* is your operating system 32 bit or 64 bit ?
>> 64bit Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1

* which version of the SDK did you use ? 2.0 ?
>> Yes I installed SDK 2.0

* was any version of VirtualBox (ever) installed on these systems prior to installing the SDK, e.g. VirtualBox 3.0 ? This could make the installer think VirtualBox was already present on the system.
>> No

* did you run the installer with administrative privileges (e.g. were you allowed to run the installer)
>> Yes

* did you install the SDK in a non standard place (e.g. E:\)?
>> \"c:\Program Files (x86)\Smart TV Alliance\"

* did you see the VirtualBox installer appearing when installing the SDK ? (apparently not, but just to make sure)
>> I did not see VirtualBox installer itself nor any error message. What I have seen that it was downloading VirtualBox installer, since VirtualBox is not part of the offline installation package

I can re-install it once again if you are looking for some more specific details. Let me know if I can help you.

Thank you for your detailed answers. It seems like the download of Virtualbox did not function properly. Could you indicate if you normally need a proxy on your system, or if any virusscanner tools are present that may have blocked the installation ?

For now, we will take your report and see if we can use it to make future improvements to the installer. Thank you very much.

Hi,

I checked it once again with my colleague and we came to the conclusion that problem was as you suggested. The download is silently blocked by Norton Internet Security.

The only problem is that in such cases is that there is none error displayed, so creates the impression the installation was successfully, but in fact there is no VirtualBox. But it can be installed separately in 5 minutes...

Thanks for you interest in the problem.
